Government Intervention Needed to Restore Confidence in Limerick Emergency Health Services

Verdict of Medical Misadventure in Aoife Johnston Inquest

Major Government Intervention Required to Address Issues

A major Government intervention is required to restore public confidence in emergency health services in the Limerick area in the wake of the verdict of medical misadventure returned today Thursday at the inquest into the death of 16-year-old Aoife Johnston.

Ms Johnston told how her husband James had taken Aoife to Shannon Doc at around 4:50pm after she complained of feeling unwell after school.

The inquest into the death of Aoife Johnston has opened at Kilmallock Courthouse in Co Limerick. The 16-year-old died at University Hospital Limerick on February 10, 2023.

Following the death of Aoife Johnston 16 from Cronan Lawn Shannon Co Clare UL Hospitals Group extended its condolences to the family.

The inquest is expected to hear evidence from a number of witnesses, including medical staff who treated Aoife Johnston.

The Government must take immediate action to address the issues that have been raised in the inquest into the death of Aoife Johnston.

This includes providing additional resources to emergency health services in the Limerick area, and ensuring that staff are properly trained and equipped to deal with the challenges they face.

The Government must also take steps to improve communication between emergency health services and the public, so that people know what to do in the event of a medical emergency.
